Grant writing can be a daunting task. Sustainable, Restorative and Regenerative 3-D Ocean Farming. Once we realized that every other country with a coastline was engaged in Kelp Farming (and Canada was still harvesting wild kelp forests) we knew that we had to empower small stakeholder farmers with a new approach to commercial food production.

KELP FARM TRAINING
You can join this rapidly growing industry in the cultivation of various marine plants, primarily seaweeds (kelp), macro-algae and shellfish. It promotes ecological sustainability and the restoration of marine ecosystems, creating a positive impact on both the environment and society.
​
3D Ocean farming is a simple, scaleable type of ocean farming which uses the entire water column to grow restorative species. It has a minimal environmental footprint, restores biodiversity and ecosystems, mitigates climate change and creates sustainable blue-green jobs.

REGENERATIVE OCEAN CROPS
Crops such as kelp, mussels, scallops, shellfish play a significant role in marine ecosystems. Not only are they a critical habitat for a wide range of marine species, but they also improve water quality and can slow currents for optimizing zooplankton habitats. Kelp is highly efficient at sequestering carbon dioxide and generating oxygen during photosynthesis.

Many types of kelp are nutritious and are considered a Superfood. Kelp and shellfish are a sustainable food source for humans and animals! Kelp is used in the production of biodegradable materials reducing reliance on single-use plastics and contributing to waste reduction. Kelp has a wide variety of usages in medicine, personal care products and fabrics. Components are also utilized as bio-stimulants for growth regulating components of land-based agriculture. Harvesting of wild stocks to meet the ever-growing demand is rapidly depleting our natural resources. At the Evergreen Training Center, the cultivation of regenerative ocean crops allows for the restoration of our degrading coastal ecosystems.

Farmers unite! The Canadian Kelp Farming Cooperative is a collaboration not a competition. The start-up costs for a small stakeholder farm are relatively low including a small boat, various lines and floats and some training. Return on investment can be achieved in year one.
